Looks like Qantas wants to mussle in on the Canberra to Sunshine Coast route that AQZ started a few weeks back. I guess it was a predictable response if the route showed any promise. Will be interesting to see if there is demand for both airlines or whether AQZ packs it in. Shows that competition between Qantas and Alliance is still strong.

Speculation is that Virgin Australia Regional Airlines doesn't have a place in the Bain Capital regime which is about to start, particularly flying the F100's. Given the existing revenue sharing arrangements between VARA and AQZ, this may impact AQZ profitability in the short term. Longer term, I think it presents opportunities for AQZ to pick up more FIFO work in WA on the basis to top customer service and a very cost effective model. Assume AQZ may also acquire some pretty cheap F100's from VARA.
