Thanks for passing this on Goodtip. Much of it we have heard here and there before of course but it greatly helps focus to have a lot of it pulled together in an article like this.
I posted an article two or three weeks ago, ('global warming, gdy & etp.' 5/12/09.) that expressed some similar sentiments to those in your post. Essentially, aggresively converting the power generation technologies in Australia & around the world for greener renewables.
As your post states it is more a political hurdle than a technical one. The costs are huge granted, but the costs of using short term 'solutions' like carbon taxes etc. 'A robbing Peter to pay Paul'sort of exercise, are also enormous.
Thanks again for troubling to post at this busy hour goodtip. It is important that people do some thinking on the environmental options as pollies of all pesuasions will be looking to try and make themselves look good while doing as little damage as possible to their images come the next elections. Not an ideal situation for huge issues like this.
