Execution fees are small nowadays - since Chi-X came to play, but there is a small price per executed trade, yes. The real money for ASX is in clearing and settlement fees - which only apply to any daily net position change after trading has finished for the day - at least this currently is the case. Additionally, in terms of the high-frequency traders, ASX makes $$ from "co-location" which are the fees charged to have your servers hosted in the ASX data-centre where the trading engine servers also reside.
