The total lack of wisdom within the Australian government is staggering. The only reason the US want their subs in Australia is to de-stabilize the Asia Pacific region and specifically China and Australia have taken the bait hook line and sinker. The majority of the world knows how toxic the US is, and a number of countries are currently demanding the US remove their illegal bases. The US owned mainstream media will lie to the Australian people (see above) and say the US want to protect and stabilize the region. But the region is not unstable, although it will be if we keep heading down this road, allowing them to militarize Australia. And you can bet your bottom dollar the British are sliming around in the background egging things on.
And there it is in the last few lines of the announcement above; The chair of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, McCaul was speaking during a visit to Sydney. U.S. submarine maintenance in Australia is a step helping to "better deter aggression in the region and uphold the rules-based international order", the ministers added in Friday's statement.

The USA have 400 military bases surrounding China. I'd say that is pretty aggressive and China would be foolish not to build their defenses given the track record of the USA.
What Australia needs are peaceful, respectful trade relationships with our neighbors in the region. Not a military build up.
