What I think could work though is parcel / document delivery in the CBD with some sort of netting that catch failing drones. Not sure how birds would respond though. The blades on bigger drones go right through flesh.
I'm all for them, and have a few mini ones myself. I just doubt it'll take off for delivery purposes (at this time)... And what's to stop people / kiddies from 'shooting' them down (with slingshots / throwing stuff at them etc).
There was a large multirotor (one with 8 rotors... worth thousands of bucks) flying around my place a few weeks ago. Very very noisy, and yes, the inner kid in me thought of ways to take it down somehow...
