SYDNEY, May 22 (Reuters) - Australia reported its first human case of avian influenza A(H5N1), also known as "bird flu", on Wednesday, although there were no signs of transmission and the chance of further human cases was very low, according to the Victoria state Department of Health.
The case occurred in a child, who acquired the infection in India and was unwell in March 2024, the statement said. The child made a full recovery.
