Most cases involving the use of force by police present shades of grey. There are 2 sides to most stories.
This is not one of them.
Again..... 95 is not 85 or 75 or 65. That reality and what it means when overlayed with agreed facts including dementia, a tiny frail body and a walking frame don't register with some commentators.
F the training. Training isn't an issue. The Senior Constable was extensively trained. They all are. Police training has greatly reduced such incidents BUT no amount of training will ever prevent bad people from ignoring their training.
The steak knife could easily have been removed by any half fit 60 year old. FAILING THAT, Police and other emergency service personnel are TRAINED to wait such situations out. They are TRAINED to call for the intervention a friend or relative (someone a distressed person may trust) to calm things down. TRAINED to close the door on the treatment room and wait a few hours.
Yes waiting can be boring but that's what has to be done sometimes.
