"At the Bulga Downs cattle station 340 kilometres north-west of Kalgoorlie, farmer David McQuie has just struck a $2 million deal to sell carbon credits generated at his property for the past two years.Another $36 million awaits over the next 23 years, thanks to credits earned through the regeneration of land, mostly from cutting livestock numbers and changing grazing practices at the 700,000-hectare station.“We’ve lost about $250,000 income out of cattle for about a $2 million gain,” McQuie says of the deal that saw some of the 125,000 carbon offsets snapped up by financial group Jarden and a private self-managed super fund, but most sold into an emissions reduction fund auction run by the federal government."
