The problem with allot of activists is that they expect someone else to fix the problem for them but don't take any personal responsibility for their own actions that contribute to environmental problems. Every time we buy or consume something there is a real cost to the planet in terms of resource use & pollution & waste. After finishing their protests its off to home in a fossil fuel car, turn on the lights (CO2 emissions), eat something (probably wrapped in plastic), play games on their computers (more future e-waste) etc. They want the luxury of western first world lifestyles and want someone else to fix the problem they are part of creating. How many of these kids would agree to forgo their mobile phones, 3 meals a day and snacks, not be able to buy whatever they wanted? Human civilization is founded on exponential growth & consumption. Preservation of the environment is completely incompatible with modern civilization.
