Hi Pete, I have been trying to compare Villa World (VLW) with AVJ, but it is like apples to pears (but better than apples to oranges). Villa Word had around $8 million cash at 31 December 2018, compared to AVJ's $2.7 million (down from $8.5 million at 30 June 2018).
Villa World apparently thought they were flush with cash and are now $3 million into a buyback. That plus they have maintained a steady dividend makes me think that the home building industry hasn't been all that bad. It is difficult to compare company results when projects overlap two or more financial periods. I expect that AVJ with its $11 million carry over to the second half will pay between 2 and 3 cents.
Any one else out there have something to add? Share prices are affected by sentiment so it would be valuable to learn how others feel about AVJ's dividend cut.
Cantankerous James
