While this announcement does create a level of anxiety about getting screwed by what seems to me to be a US shell company (anxious because it's SIO), I think the announcement is a master stroke. Edwards and Medtronic will have gone to work in the morning (about the same time this announcement dropped) and realised they need to pay close attention.
Personally, I wouldn't offload this tech to a mob that doesn't know heart valves. Period.
