Carbon capture, use and storage (CCUS) is an emerging technology with the potential to reduce emissions

The CO2 is separated from other gases and compressed. It can then be permanently stored in underground geological formations or used to create commercial products.

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is identified as a priority low emissions technology and can also be used to produce clean hydrogen, another priority technology. CCS reduces emissions from off-grid hydrogen production that uses gas or coal gasification.

Carbon Dioxide can be reused to produce more hydrocarbons, as well as in the manufacture of automotive fuels, chemicals, cement and plastics

Other technologies will be developed in the future such as new microalgae to capture carbon and produce oil that can be used for new products.

So the process is a complete loop, industry produces carbon that is captured and re-utilised instead of being dispersed into the air.
