Maybe you still use the word Chink for Chinese and Frog for French and Kraut or Nazi for German and so on, I don't know. The term Aussie does not have a negative view in language (which is evolving) and neither does Kiwi therefore they are used with out issue. I myself have issues with some language being too politically correct but generally know some terms are just a bit out dated.
Using the term JAFA which is use by people in the UK for an Australian is probably derogatory but in my overseas experience quite apt at times, the same way Kiwis use it for Aucklanders. One day maybe Aussie will be viewed in a negative way but for now it is not.
