One thing that is different in USA and AUS is that in US the average mortgage is $350k and in OZ its about $850k.
For example at 5% interest rates in US your pocket is hit by appox $17.5k annually but in OZ we have to fork out $42.5k.......
Avg Sal (2021) in USA was US$97,262 so $17.5k appox 18% of one's pay goes into repayment, but in
OZ Avg Salary is US$61,056 (https://www.tim edo ct or.com/blog/average-salary-in-australia/ ) or AUD$90,840 and paying $42.5k is nearly 46.8% of ones salary......
Has the RBA not taken this into consideration..............
