Don't know about ASB. They have been a pain in the ass. We set up a Subsidiary in NZ last week and trying to set up a bk account with ASB has been a nightmare.
Not sure about politics in NZ atm, but they have to make it easier for Aust companies, opening bank accounts in NZ.
