    yst is correct.

Chinese parents spend between USD $50 to $100k per year to send their kid to study in Australia - some spend a lot more. Their kids, after learning of our ways, become the Manager and eventually the CEO of family businesses when they return - and they know every tricks in the books that USD $500k of Western education provide them.

Some families in China will buy their kid a home to live in, whilst studying in Australia - and this is causing some resentment in Australia as it drives up home prices.

Where you are correct is "Money is important" . Money is important to Aust Universities as well as Chinese businesses - they don't invest half a million in their children's education and get nothing out of it.

Some of wealth in China now is just obscene. I have some clients who invested over $100M just to build a family home. They are keeping up with the "Jones" so to speak. Everything materialistic in the West, are desired by these Chinese.

They are more capitalistic than we are.

Of course, wealth in China (just like any capitalist system) is not evenly spread. There are some very poor farmers and beggars on the streets, just like we have in Australia.
