Completely agree. This whole thing is purely political and the political parties want to be seen 'fighting the big companies', while doing absolutely nothing about electricity, energy, oil, insurance, housing, etc.

The media have directed the average idiots attention towards supermarkets which is an easy target because everyone needs to eat. The NZ media point the attention to AUS and say "look, they make less profit" (meanwhile most grocery stores in NZ are indepedents), while the AUS media point to the UK and say "see, they make less profit", while the UK media are sitting there accusing their grocery stores of price gouging.

At the end of the day, hate sells and the political parties and media are always looking for something to hate on.

However one thing is for sure, the agreements with suppliers will need to be improved which will actually result in an increase shelf price. Subsequently because profit margins are set based on a percentage, it will also result in an increase of profit. Anyone that believes that suppliers will decrease prices are deluded, or alternative at the cost of reduced sales/discounts, which means smart shoppers will spend more while dumb shoppers will spend less.

There will be minimal shareprice movement over the next 12 months.
