Overheard at a Berlin beerhall after work meeting
."Hallo Hans! Ich habe gehört, dass die australische Regierung die Lebensmittelgeschäfte Coles und Woolworths auflösen wird. Das dürfte unserem Aldi viel Geld einbringen!"

translation;
Hey Hans! I have heard that the Australian Government are going to break up Coles and Woolworths grocery stores. That should make a lot of money for our Aldi !

Hans's reply would have been:- (in English)
Freakin' oath! There is no way smaller stores can keep the price down like large conglomerates! Amazon, Aldi, and Costco will take over that market for sure. There must by mugs in that Parliament. It's your shout by the way. I'll have a stein of Heiniken Klaus!

I well remember 50 years ago when there was a corner store selling groceries all over the country. Expiry dates were unheard of. If it smelt OK - sell it.
The rats loved 'em. "Tickles" and other companies delivered stock with hundreds of those blue trucks. The transport costs as a % of turnover must have been enormous in those days.

The geniuses at the Senate Enquiry should stick to their real estate investments which seem to be the the real reason for being a member of Parliament these days. The "Register of members/senators Interests" is available to all on the net.
