This is all political, Pollies want to get votes from the disgruntled community who are heavily impacted across the cost of living.
If ACCC attain any powers, they are also need to be other players willing to come to the Australian market which is already a difficult one to be in. Aldi has done a great job, but it’s taken them over 20 years and significant investment. As inflationary pressures come down, and prices like (meat) start to fall then this whole thing will fade away. Just like Peterol stations, you can create a market but doesn’t mean it will bring down prices.
