Linc's pilot had a lot of problems that were never made known to the market, but since Chinchilla is leaky as a sieve, news and rumours got out. I hadn't heard about gas escaping but it doesn't surprise me given what else I have heard.
I agree with you on Linc's reporting, it has always been extremely poor. Big on hype but small on substance. The only UCG information I've seen has been a single gas chromatograph plot. Pretty poor since the Linc burn was more than 12 months ago.
But the explanation for stopping buying up land is simple - by my understanding, Linc's owning of the land does not prevent CSG companies taking out ATPs over it. In fact if the legal decision went against them, they could end up being refused an MDL even though they own the land, because CSG has an ATP over it! What would they do then? It would have been a complete waste of money. Much better to head to SA where CSG companies don't have such lobbying power and UCG and gas tenements can't overlap.
Of course this discussion really should be taken to the LNC thread but since the issues are directly related to CXY as well I think it can stay here. Luckily, there are no current ATPs over Kingaroy so Cougar's flagship should be alright. Wandoan is another matter though. But that's down the track.
