40% is low by industry standards but coals in the Burngrove formation have strong coking properties so is more valuable, its just they are generally high in ash so require more washing which results in a low recovery
have a look at Aquilas Washpool project, it has targeted Burngrove coals and I think its expected recovery is less than 40%
