Cougar Energy Ltd (ASX:CXY) says hydrocarbons have been indentified in bores in and around the company's Kingaroy underground coal gasification project.
Queensland's Department of Environmental and Resource Management had earlier said that Cougar Energy would have to keep its Kingaroy UCG plant closed until the Government is assured that ground water resources are protected.
On Friday Cougar announced a laboratory discrepancy from independent tests on the pilot project in Queensland.
The latest results were released on Saturday night, with data showing that five of the eight bores being sampled, were in all cases, within the Australian Drinking Water Guideline standards.
Cougar Energy welcomed the data and says that the director of Queensland's Department of Environmental and Resource Management, John Bradley, advices that no adverse health effects would be expected from the levels in the groundwater.
Cougar Energy reported a loss of $2.9 million for the year ending 30 June 2009
