Had they meant what you said they would have constructed the sentence

Given that Greg Solomon is a lawyer, his error in confusing this issue, as well as altering the second statement, in the same announcement, creating further confusion, is inexcusable.
Let's wait and see what Jamie Scorringe has to say.
