Money talks much more loudly especially in a country like Ukraine who see EU/Germany's actions everyday in shafting them on their one Russian leverage, the Russian Gas pipe line to EU.

And everyday they see EU/Germany/Russia efforts in approving Nord pipe lines bypassing Ukraine breaking international sanctions.

Also the current NATO doctrine is using Ukraine as buffer in advent of war with Russia, RATHER than defending Ukraine.

For Ukraine.... China is an vital equalising force

Russia its enemy is at its door step
EU is a proven unreliable friend who is all talk but will turn their back if help is needed or its too their advantage
China is an extra leverage for Ukraine to counter EU and Russia as both will have to consider China in any EU-Russia spat.
