News: Europe Distillates-Diesel cracks firm on US inventory drawdown

LONDON, Aug 21 (Reuters) - Northwest European diesel barge refining cracks rose by about 50 cents to $16.27 a barrel on Wednesday, buoyed by firmer demand and a larger-than-expected fall in U.S. inventories.

• A total of twelve 10ppm diesel barges traded in the Platts window, up from seven on Tuesday. Trafigura bought from Mercuria, BB Energy, and TotalEnergies.

• U.S. distillate stockpiles USOILD=ECI , which include diesel and heating oil, fell by 3.3 million barrels last week to 122.8 million barrels, versus expectations in a Reuters poll for a 215,000 barrel drop, Energy Information Administration data showed.

• "The middle distillate market is facing challenges due to high stock levels in the region. However, the start of harvest season and autumn maintenance at refineries are expected to provide some relief for diesel markets," LSEG analyst Rakesh Varma said.
• UK and EU diesel and gasoil imports have reached 1.4 million barrels per day so far this month, Kpler data showed, up from 992,000 bpd in July.
