The News Agency AFP is reporting that the FBI has launched a preliminary probe after allegations News Corporation (ASX:NWS) employees sought to gain access to the phone records of September 11 victims.
The Justice Department would not comment. The House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Peter King reportedly sent a letter to the FBI director urging him to look into the allegations.
It seems now that the News of the World phone hacking scandal has spread from Britain, to Australia and now to American shores.
News Corp booked a net profit of just under $1.5 billion in the first half of its 2011 financial year.
