The ticker is a synthetic piece of server-side Javascript that increments regularly. As an experiment, I checked the numbers of users/jobs a few times and plotted them against time. They are perfect straight lines, which isn't how real user/job numbers would work.
Anyone celebrating the ticker numbers is the investing equivalent of a baby delighted by jingling keys.
