Even before the election, the current government parties and the Sweden Democrats promised that the ban on uranium mining in Sweden would be lifted.

Minister of Industry Ebba Busch (KD) tells Sweden's Radio Ekot that the deposits of rare earth metals can speed up the process of lifting the ban.

- This ban that we have today against uranium mining in Sweden also has major consequences on the possibility of getting rid of other necessary metals and minerals for the green transition, says Ebba Busch to Ekot.

However, the red-green opposition, including the Center Party, wants to keep the ban on uranium mining.

- I don't buy the argument that it would be decisive to get these earth minerals to lift this uranium mining ban, says the Left Party's energy policy spokesperson Birger Lahti to Ekot.

Since the Liberal party leadership on January 20 decided to say yes to uranium mining in Sweden, there is a majority in the Riksdag for a lifted ban.
