BERLIN, July 19 (Reuters) - A lithium supply deal between the European Union and Serbia boosts Europe's independence, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in Belgrade on Friday, pointing to opportunities it brings for electric car manufacturing and climate goals.
"It is important that such a decision was taken today," Scholz said following the signing of the deal, which offers the EU access to raw materials mined in Serbia.
The move "increases resilience and promotes industry", Scholz added.
