Combo of issues, Amazon slow down in growth, interest rates and recession fears.
Headline was Amazon growth slowed to 7% in Q1 2022, yet many might be missing, is that it is being measured against year on year Q1 2021, which grew 44% in Q1 2021. The compound annual growth rate since Q1 2020 is an impressive 24%.
Amazon saw such rapid growth during the early stages of COVID that its good growth right now is seen by investors as a sign of slowing progress.
Meanwhile AWS grew 37% year on year. Cloud infrastructure needs are multiplying and will continue to expand. AWS has 33% of the global market. AWS made 47.8 billion in operating profit since 2019, whilst Google lost 14 billion.
Timing the bottom for GMG is the challenge.
