The world is ful of really good ideas done or marketed bady, which failed, and not so good ideas done or marketed well, which succeeded. Beta vs VHS was a prime example. ICE vehicles are another one. How about ECE vehicles?
Our present ICE powered vehicles are a perfect example of a not so great idea, which was marketed well. Also they had the advantage of nigh on 150 years of technological development, and countless trillions spent, to bring them to their present level of sophistication. Any new technology will not have this advantage. It is expected to be "road ready" almost overnight. (It actually beats me why LNG has not taken over at least 50% or more of our domestic market. Years ago, we were replacing the gutless diesel Japanese 4 ton trucks, with 308s on LNG. staright out of the crate from Eagers) Those trucks would accelerate up hills in 3rd gear, where the Jap trucks were grinding up in 1st. Admittedly, the modern Turbocharges diesels are much better, but how much money did that development cost. Until our government stuffed-up prices, most of the Taxi Fleet was LPG, then LNG. BTW. look up the pollution figures for LNG (CH4) engines. If you do, you will see that EVs are not that good at all. (pollution wise) ie. You have to generate the power somehow.
So that is why any new technology is having such a slow startup. Unless govenments are willing to subsidise the development of an alternative motor vehicle technology, any take up will be very slow. My first trade was a Motor Mechanic, but as a career of choice, I worked in the engineering side of Computers for thirty years. So I undestand the problems and advantages of alternative fuels better than most. You will find that most of them require much more fuel, than the ubiquitous hydrocarbon we commonly use. WHY? Because they have a lower calorific equivalent. (If you require me to elucidate this, I will)
Also. In thirty years in Ellectronics I have seen innnumerable "you beaut'" tecnologies, (which of course, were goung to revoltionise the industry, and computers) vanish without trace. Therefore, what convinces everyone that Lithium is the answer to a maiden's prayer? Maybe some other tecnology, may prove to be even better, sooner than we all think. Then; Hasta mananya baby. Or to be more correct; Nos vemos mañana bebé.
