    Wind is far from dead

    'Grid needs huge investment'
The Australian, Business News, 13/10/16, page 21
The nation's power market operator is advancing work on the effect of Australia's emissions reduction commitment and renewable energy target on electricity grid infrastructure, amid fresh predictions that big investments will be needed as wind and solar farms proliferate. As debate rages about wind power following last month's South Australian blackouts, experts say the shift in generation mix will drive investment in the network, beyond the proposed new interconnector between South Australia and NSW and second Tasmanian interconnector, projects which became priorities after Friday's emergency meeting of energy ministers.

    Spruiking the green gospel
The Australian, Editorials, 13/10/16, page 13
Queensland is about to squander its cheap power advantage A fortnight after a statewide blackout cost South Australians incalculable amounts in lost production and earnings, Queensland's Labor government has taken a further step towards its overly ambitious renewable energy target. Despite holding some of the world's richest and most accessible coal and gas resources, the Palaszczuk government is committed to achieving 50 per cent renewable energy by 2030.
