Yes indeed, Toyota are just dogs barking after the serious EV makers eat them while they are still alive. They could have been the leaders.... instead they will go down in history with the likes of Kodak, Nokia and Blackberry etc as case studies on how to miss a pardigm shift. The trouble is that the whole Japanese car industry is in the same boat and that is nearly 50% of the Japanese economy, which is by far the worlds most indebted and unable to bail them out to any major extent. Li-s Tech could give them an edge, light weight and powerful batteries close to commercialisation, not like their pipedream solid state batteries but with the same advantages. With CATL's cheap MP3 and QILIN (eventually 500 w/h per kg) going into manufacture later this year and Li-S tech, Toyota's dithering on battery tech will be lethal and their long touted solid state battery close to irrelevant even if it ever emerges after more than a decade of promises. We are in the midst of the convergence of several technology advancements in car manufacture, battery tech and green energy powered electrification costing a few cents a kW, there are only 2 clear winners to emerge so far, Tesla and BYD who alone can make a margin, as the rest of the manufacturers can make EV's but lose huge money in doing so.

Just a thought. Why are Australians still buying Toyota Hiluxs and Ford Rangers? Here is a hint. I just did a tour through SE Australia totalling 5200km. Gammon Ranges NP, Gawler Ranges NP and Wyperfeld NP included. Outside of the Canberra region, I saw one EV. It definitely wasn't anywhere near a NP.
