So we agree it's politics?
Good; the ridiculous claims that somehow Lynas were failing to address the residue issue (think condisoil) or are environmentally damaging can finally be put aside and the evidence and conclusions of the 6 or so expert reviews can finally be accepted.
Where does that leave Lynas? Probably moving on from Malaysia and in the process claiming subatantial damages through international courts. That'll take time but I'm sure the Japanese will stump up bridging finance for LAMP2 and eventual transfer of LAMP1 assets.
Where does it leave Malaysia? Damaged Japanese relationship (no loan maybe). Ruined reputation as an international investment destination. (The Chinese can avow to that if anyone has any doubts!) Regarded as an unreliable and capricious govt whose contracts aren't worth the paper they are written on.
Welcome to the real world of intarnational business, ColinChi.
Cheers,
Eddie.
