Interesting in the article is the quoted statement by a spokesman for DFAT to the effect that the Australian government is engaged in direct discussions with the Malaysian government (and with Lynas ) and will continue to engage with the government to find a solution. I don't take that to mean they are merely chatting to a junior minister.Time for the cabinet and PM of Malaysia to get openly and publicly involved.Taken with the previous comments by the ambassador, which were pretty blunt by the norms of diplomatic "speak",this quote suggests very strongly that Australia at a high level now sees this as a potentially significant issue in the relations between the two countries.Time for Malaysia in its own interest to move control of it to a higher level.
