PARIS, May 23 (Reuters) - French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday that security forces would remain in riot-hit New Caledonia as long as necessary, adding the state of emergency imposed in the Pacific island should not be prolonged.
Macron landed in New Caledonia on Thursday for a day of talks during which he will aim to turn the page on deadly riots triggered by a contested electoral reform.
