news:TOP-LEVEL talks are to be held to find ways of breathing new
life into a derelict site after plans for a massive shopping park were
    scr-pped.
Toryglen Retail Park on Glasgow's south side was to be built on
disused pitches beside Asda and was expected to bring hundreds of jobs
    to the unemployment blackspot.
But despite years of negotiations between developers Stannifer - now
Multiplex - and Glasgow City Council a final agreement was never
    reached.
Now the city council has confirmed that it has thrown out plans for
    the 250,000sq ft retail park.
Instead planning, housing and leisure bosses are to get round the
table and come up with an alternative plan for the massive site in
Prospecthill Road. It is likely to be a mixed-use development with
    housing, retail and leisure facilities.
The change of heart over the site comes after a February deadline for
missives to be signed was not met.
Multiplex is the Australian firm behind the new Wembley Stadium
project in London, which has been beset by delays.
It first expressed an interest in the Toryglen site in 1999 and today
said it would still be interested in reaching agreement to develop the
    site.
The firm was disappointed when the deal fell through after it had
chosen Toryglen for its first out-of-town shopping development.
According to a property boss at the firm, it was all set to sign the
agreement with the council when bosses received a letter from council
lawyers saying the retail park idea had been scr-pped.
    A council spokeswoman said:
