I think the market is really overlooking this. MCE currently have $50m of offshore wind bids out to tender. Most of the guys I follow in the offshore space (Tidewater, MRM etc) are observing/expecting a lot of growth in offshore wind – MRM called it exponential in its FY prezzo. Wind flat out did not exist last time around as far as these guys were concerned.
Stuff like this from December does get me a bit excited...To put it in perspective there's about 100MW of floating offshore wind right now.
A mammoth offshore wind auction is underway in the United States which will spur at least 4.6GW of floating offshore wind off the coast of California.The US government’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) this week opened the wind lease auction for five areas on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) off central and northern California.
The auction is a first for California’s Pacific Ocean deep waters, where water depths range from 500 metres down to 1,300 metres and therefore require the projects to use floating wind turbines.
