I thought it was going to be this simple too but when I had my tax done I was told that I am a share trader , and it was not worked out this way , I questioned their advice , had my tax reviewed , even got it confirmed with the ATO and yes it was not as simple and straight forward as this.
A share trader buy's and sells for a profit, a share investor buy's and holds for dividends. I don't know how they work it out but it added ALOT more to my annual income then I thought it was going to , it was not just the profit. Be careful when share trading, you might get a nasty suprise come tax time.
