Metcash Limited (ASX:MTS) will close 15 regional Campbells Cash & Carry branchs and issue over 500 redundicies following the results of its strategic review of the company.
The grocery wholesaler says it will also sell its specialist food service Foodlink to food distributor Bidvest Australia. The terms of the sale are confidential at this stage.
Metcash’s chief, Andrew Reitzer says the difficult conditions are a result of continued deflation pushing prices and margins down.
Metcash reported a half year net profit of $97.8 million to October 31, 2011.
