So re-negotiating previously signed agreed terms is known as an anticipatory breach of contract as it seeks to change the signed contract terms already agreed so it breaches the prior contract by seeking to alter those terms. And a unilateral termination or anticipatory breach is a breach of contract. The termination and non payment of the next tranche of $6.5M is yet another breach of essential terms of contract.
In law circles a unilateral termination by one side seeking to change the terms is a breach of contract entitling the other innocent side to claim damages and losses for breach inc legal costs and interest.
