News: MPL UPDATE 1-Australia's Medibank gets Deloitte's recommendations on cyber incident

April 28 (Reuters) - Australian health insurer Medibank Private Ltd (MPL) on Friday said it had been provided with findings from an external review conducted by auditing firm Deloitte into the company's cybersecurity breach in October.

Deloitte made recommendations to enhance Medibank's IT processes and systems, a number of which the company said it had implemented, without disclosing details.

Deloitte's review includes confidential and sensitive information about the cyber security measures that Medibank has in place and it was not in the interests of its customers to publicly release the audit firm's findings, a Medibank spokesperson said in an email to Reuters.

"The board will continue to oversee the completion of steps to implement the recommendations to enhance systems and processes even further," Medibank Chair Mike Wilkins said.

The company is under investigation from the country's privacy regulator on how it handles personal information, and has also been slapped with two class action

lawsuits

related to disclosures on its cyber security systems.

The cyber attack on Medibank was one among breaches reported by at least eight companies since September that compromised details of almost 10 million current and former customers.
