The chairman and CEO of dual listed News Corp (ASX:NWS, NASDAQ:NWSA), Rupert Murdoch, has resigned from more than a dozen of the media company’s subsidiary boards.

According to reports the news was revealed through UK regulatory filings and an internal memo on Saturday.

Tom Mockridge, the chief of News Corp’s British publishing arm News International, reportedly confirmed Mr Murdoch has resigned from a number of UK boards and more than a dozen boards of companies with interests in Australia, the US and India.

News Corp announced last month plans to possibly split the company’s publishing and media and entertainment assets, with Mr Murdoch earmarked to serve as chairman of both the new companies.

Shares in News Corp pulled back 1.41 per cent on Friday to finish the week at $21.63.

In the first half of the 2012 financial year News Corp posted a net profit of $1.9 billion.
