Well - no matter the results, MVF have a powerful group of Specialists inside the business who can extract a significant share of the earnings if they put their minds to it. Adds a layer of risk IMO. I remember VEI (or VGH) many years ago had a major tussle with their specialists, and never really performed as was initially expected. MVF on some metrics seems good value, but on reflection I don't understand the balance of power issues. VRT is another that could suffer similarly. If this issue was nailed down somehow, I would be very interested.
I'm not sure if gaining capital is a major difficulty, if the specialists strike out on their own.
