The BJV-MYL Bawdwin tenement & contained pit are 20 km+ away from both the old Namtu smelter & the old Namtu refinery (the latter destroyed in WWII).
Apex Co. have been reprocessing the smelter slag for years & built a newer plant to do this next to the smelter. The smelter is a museum piece and not worth restarting.
The tailings around the old destroyed refinery have also been reprocessed now & then by other parties.
Army or civilian govt, this is normal yearly auction. What the media got right is it being "Bawdwin" tailings, albeit mined before WWII!
Namtu slag & tailings not in MYL's resource nor reserves, immaterial to the future operation & nothing really to do with BJV-MYL. However I suppose in future any new BJV process plant 20km away might want to have this slag & tailings run through it. More as a favour to the community by cleaning up the area around Namtu town.
