Billionaire retailer Solomon Lew is showing no signs of being soothed by the early strategic direction and decisions by new Myer chief executive John King and has requested the latest Myer share register as he seeks to lobby shareholders to help him potentially turf out the Myer board at its annual general meeting to be held later this year.
Premier Investments, the fashion and investment vehicle chaired by Mr Lew and of which he controls 43 per cent, has written to Myer to request a copy of both Myer’s register of members and the register maintained by Myer which details the actual shareholders in the department store rather than just nominee holders of the stock.
Premier is Myer’s biggest shareholder with a stake of 10.8 per cent and Mr Lew has used his position on the Myer share register to run a public and at times bitter campaign against the Myer board for more than a year which has seen him savage the board for the retailer’s poor performance and in particular chairman Garry Hounsell who he has called a number of times a “liar”.
The latest request for Myer’s share register comes at an interesting time in the Myer battle with recently appointed CEO Mr King winning over a large number of investors with his opening remarks and strategies for Myer.
