Well MYR is a bit of a magic/tragic pudding - it's future depends on finding a strategy that works. There is no point Myer wrestling pigs. They need to be a show pony IMO. Exclusive brands will have ups and downs, but it is a better area to focus on than undifferentiated merch. Also they need to operate in localities where the market will appreciate what they are offering. I doubt they need to have stores everywhere.
Tough life - but if they can get some traction with (and market/shoppers confidence in) a strategy and come up with some clever tricks, then they can attract the bigger spenders. They appear to have bought themselves some time and a reason to exist. Can management give Myer the right halo and virtues? Shoppers can be like Lemmings - lol.
Half two is always the tough half - I don't see the guarded outlook comments as holding any surprises.
They need to get rid of the bargain basement - you can't have a up market brand being "polluted" by attracting discount shoppers. If there is still a lease in place, and no justification for adding MYR Merch, put something unique in the basement IMO - even a posh childcare area with a very well groomed patting zoo (to let parents/grandparents shop) - or classy artistic pop up shops by invitation (Myer Market?) etc
