WELLINGTON, Dec 16 (Reuters) - Consumer confidence in New Zealand fell in December to 124.5 from 127.2, the ANZ-Roy Morgan consumer confidence index showed on Friday.

The dip was "marginal" and the index remained at high levels of optimism, according to economists.

"Last month's earthquake doesn't appear to have had a material impact," said ANZ chief economist Cameron Bagrie, noting that Wellington, the city hardest hit by the 7.8 magnitude tremor was the most upbeat region.

Expectations for consumer price inflation over the next two years rose to 3.4 percent from 3.3 percent in the previous survey.
