WELLINGTON, April 4 (Reuters) - New Zealand employee confidence improved in the first quarter versus the previous three months, a survey showed Monday.

The Westpac-McDermott Miller employee confidence index was 104.8 in the three months to March versus 101.5 in the previous quarter. The index is now a little above its five-year average.

A reading above 100 indicates more optimists than pessimists.

"Workers have become more confident about both their future and, in particular, their current employment conditions," Westpac Bank said.
