News: Newfield Resources to release diamond exploration results

Newfield Resources (ASX:NWF) has been granted a trading halt pending results of the company’s diamond exploration programme in Sierra Leone.

Newfield's shares are currently in pre-open.

Earlier in the month the company confirmed a kimberlite discovery at the Lake Popei Project in Sierra Leone.

Trenching and independent petrographic analysis confirmed the discovery of a series of kimberlite dykes.

At the time Newfield said that it believes this discovery is the first recorded exposure of a kimberlite dyke outside of the established diamond producing Koidu and Tongo Diamond Fields.

Newfield’s compilation of historical datasets suggests that the Lake Popei kimberlite discovery may be part of a more extensive kimberlite field.

The halt will remain in place until the opening of trade on Monday 29th September 2014, or earlier if an announcement is made to the market.
